Who We Are
Adopt A Rescue Pet, formerly known as “Shelter Dog Rescue”, was created by a group of individuals who rescued “purebred” dogs scheduled for euthanasia at animal shelters in the Clark County, Nevada area.
By January of 1999, Shelter Dog Rescue had grown into an organization that included volunteers who rescued a variety of animals needing a second chance at finding a loving home. Such animals included cats, ferrets, rabbits, pond fish and all types of dogs.
Since obtaining non-profit approval in 2000, Adopt A Rescue Pet has grown to be one of Nevada's largest animal rescue groups providing a safe haven for dogs suffering from abuse, neglect or homelessness. In most of these cases, death would have resulted if the animal had entered a municipally funded shelter.
Currently, Adopt A Rescue Pet houses rescued dogs in foster homes, local boarding facilities, and our "under construction" rescue ranch & retirement facility.
Adopt A Rescue Pet receives no local or federal funding, it relies solely on the generosity of its contributors and tax deductible donations received from the public.

Thank You For Saving Us
Just in time, the community came together and saved Adopt A Rescue Pet’s Sanctuary & Retirement Ranch from closure and saved the animals from displacement. The raising of $70,000 was such a HUGE task that many didn’t believe it could be done in 45 days – but you did! Woof-Wonderful You!
I know this letter of thanks is long over due, and a celebration party was deserved, but life in animal welfare never stops. Before the final payment check was written, dogs from the Nevada puppy mill featured in Darcy Spears of Las Vegas’ KTNV- Channel 13 story of the crackdown on puppy mills in Nevada, needed ARP’s help - fast. The 53 “breeder dogs” featured in the news story were turned over to Adopt A Rescue Pet. Housing was built; veterinary care and grooming were provided; giving these dogs an opportunity for a loving home ~ a life they may have never otherwise known.
Daily, dozens of owners seek ARP’s help for their pets due to home foreclosure, job loss, divorce, moving, & finances. Framing this letter are just a few faces your generosity has helped save. Thanks to you, homeless animals are provided medical care, love, nutrition, & sterilization (which help to curb pet overpopulation).
100% of your tax deductible donations go directly into our programs enabling us to provide a second chance for hundreds of animals a month.
Adopt A Rescue Pet commits to the voiceless animals so that they will be safe in their life ahead. We will always have a safe place for them. Our adopters commit to returning the animal to ARP, if for any reason that they can no longer provide the animal a safe home. We can make this commitment thanks to your continuous generosity.
ARP is not government subsidized. We are a no-kill, rehabilitation and retirement ranch for animals. We cannot make these commitments to the 13,000 animals re-homed over the past 10 years without your generous support and donations.
Monthly operating expenses for food, medical care, transportation, and supplies exceed $7,000 per month. With 300+ animals in our programs on a given day, donations enable us to know how we will help tomorrow’s homeless dog to survive and provide what it needs.
Thank you for helping save the lives of the voiceless,
Always your rescue friend,
Elizabeth Davis-Rubin, Founder

Retirees vs. Euthanasia
For over 10 years, Adopt A Rescue Pet has promised the public we would care for the animals we save. It is not the fault of the animal that it became homeless, nor that it was provided improper training and socialization, or that during its lifetime it was neglected or abused. Puppies, purebreds and dogs under 3 years old have a higher adoption rate in municipal shelters. In an all breed rescue, like ARP, mixed breeds and seniors find their safety and we do our best to find them homes, no matter how long it takes.
S.N.I.P.
Spay – Neuter - Inoculate – Protect – This year, over 557 animals have required SNIP after entering the re-homing program of ARP. Only 300 animals turned in by owners were sterile prior to entering adoption programs. All animals in Adopt A Rescue Pet are sterilized by private veterinarians, unless rescued out of an animal shelter. Each animal is also vaccinated and implanted with a microchip traceable back to ARP, so that it may never be homeless again.
Food Pantry
Feeding rescue animals is not as easy as some people think. Animals come into rescue with food allergies, health issues, restricted diets, and supplement needs. Some would say, “you are a rescue, feed what you can.” This is a simple belief, but if an animal is fed the wrong diet, it can cause more financial constraints on the organization, public perception that the animals are not cared for properly and worse yet, growth deformities in puppies and muscle deterioration in seniors. Proper nutrition is most important to an animal finding a new forever home and to those pets whose families just cannot afford to feed their pet – that’s when a stocked pantry and desperately needed. ARP uses 327lbs of kibble a day!
Save A Life Adopt
550+ animals have been adopted in the first 6 months of 2011, of which 152 were sterilized prior to entering into the adoption re-homing program. Close to 15,000+ animals have been saved from death in since the non profit group was formed in 2000. (Including cats, small animals and limited exotics.)

What Goes Into Rescuing a Dog?
Many dogs taken in by rescues are sick, malnourished, matted and/or injured. Many diseases such as Parvo, Distemper and Bordatella are widespread in the Las Vegas valley. Often, when a rescue takes in a dog it has been exposed to one or more of these diseases. If the dog has not been vaccinated (and even sometimes when it HAS been) it will most likely become violently ill with a deadly and highly contagious disease. At this point the rescue has one of two choices:
1. Euthanize the dog
2. Treat the illness and nurse the dog back to health after it is better.
The dogs below are just a few that Adopt A Rescue Pet (ARP) has taken in that needed or still needs special attention.
Maxine had what is known as “cherry eye”. Dogs have a third eyelid located in the corner of each eye. Normally this eyelid, which contains a tear gland, is not visible. In some cases, this gland comes out of its normal position and swells. This causes irritation and pain. Many times a dog will scratch or rub the eye which can lead to infection and other more serious conditions.
The treatment for cherry eye is surgery in which the third eyelid is surgically attached back into place. Although this surgery is quick and easy, its expensive - usually more than three times the dog’s adoption fee. We are happy to say Maxine got adopted although we were not able to recuperate the money it took to correct her eyes.
Bennie came to us with very little hair and no body fat. He had to be treated with topical ointments, oral medication and a special diet. He had to stay with us much longer than most dogs and required intensive treatment for several weeks until he was feeling better and on his way to a full recovery. Bennie has also been adopted to a loving home.
This is Adam. He has an abscess on his eye. This will have to be surgically removed and He will have to be on antibiotics and oral medication until he has recovered. The veterinary ophthalmologist’s surgical quote for treatment and recovery exceed $1,200.
As you can see, caring for these dogs can be financially draining. That is why we are asking for your assistance. “Every little bit helps.”
Adopt A Rescue Pet, founded in 2000, is a non profit charitable animal welfare organization in southern Nevada.
ARP has rescued and placed 13,000+ animals into new homes. Pets in the program are sterilized, vaccinated and microchip under the scrutiny of private veterinarians; Adopt A Rescue pet operates a 5 acre sanctuary/retirement ranch for dogs in Amargosa Valley, NV.

HALE PET DOOR
RESCUE REWARDS
“A Door to Somewhere”
You Adopt/We Donate
If you have adopted a pet from a rescue or shelter, you have saved a life. Hale Pet Door™ wants to reward you for that. Several years ago we started our “Rescue Rewards Program,” which benefits adopters, animals and rescue groups alike.
When you purchase a Hale Pet Door, let us know if your pet was adopted from a rescue or shelter. We will give you a 10% discount off the retail price of the door! Also let us know the name of the organization from which you adopted your pet. We will donate an additional 10% of the retail price to that organization.
It is “win-win” for our valued customers, the rescue groups, and most of all, the pets who can enjoy their brand new Hale Pet Door in their very own home!
Millions of shelter animals are euthanized every year in the U.S. simply due to pet over-population. The Rescue Rewards Program is our way to encourage folks to consider giving a “forever home” to a deserving pet.
When you purchase one of our pet doors on our website, www.halepetdoor.com, be sure to let us know during the "checkout" process that you adopted your pet and fill in the name of the rescue organization. You can also purchase from our franchises, selected dealers or over the phone. We will then contact you for details so that both you and your rescue group will benefit! If you have any questions, need any further information, or would prefer to make your pet rescue purchase over the telephone, you can contact us at 1-800-646-4773.
